Who are our new friends?, 2006

4 male – 5 female

Elena Penga

The play has been inspired by Alice In Wonderland.  The main characters are a BOY (OGI) who grew old too fast, and BICKY, a Serbian girl who protests all the time.  The action starts as the BOY (who is from Skopje) seeks a way out of his recent exile in Vienna, and an adventure.  Through his television set, the BOY is transported to an abstract time and space, a kind of Balkan wasteland.  There, he meets BICKY, and together they encounter a series of different characters who lived through the war.  They meet an English reporter, who cannot recognize himself on his own ID card, a Sniper with a Kalashnikov, eager to teach them how to kill effectively, the General Secretary of Nato, the Director of the Belgrade Zoo, Miss Sarajevo 1993, a Foreign Aid young man who hates Russia, and a lonely girl, who needs their help.  But as the 2 kids try to understand war, they go deeper into darker situations, and lose themselves.  The BOY stays there, and doesn't come out.  Unlike, Alice In Wonderland.

It has been translated in English by the playwright, in French by Danae Verle, in Italian by Giusepe Marengo.
