Our Garden, 2011

Antonis (Cyprus) Georgiou

A scientist wants to investigate the contents of a well which is located in a small, meticulously tidy and rich garden owned by an elderly man cultivating purely endemic plants. A secret is hovering about a conflict between two different ethnic communities that had taken place in the area years before. The scientist demands explanations, and the permission for the well to be opened and reveal the truth about the past. The old man does not give his consent and appears determined to defend his garden and his plants’ “purity” in any way possible. Everything is local, he will not accept anything foreign. The appearance of the old man’s grandson temporarily terminates the discussion and the conflict between the two men is unresolved.
