Winter, 1888, late October through Christmas. Van Gogh houses Gaugin in the Yellow House in Arles, and together they paint. With this moment as a landmark, we have references to their past and future. Time is signified by the presence of women in Van Gogh’s life: his strict mother, the cousin he fell in love with, the young prostitute he gifted his severed ear to, his sister, the doctor’s daughter that ruined him. The turbulent life of a genius, who turned madness into art.
