Alexis Stamatis is a well known Greek novelist, and poet born in Athens, Greece. He studied Architecture at the National Technical University of Athens and took postgraduate degrees in Architecture and Cinematography in London.

He has published ten novels. His second novel, Βar Flaubert (Kedros 2000), a critically acclaimed best seller in Greece, has been published in UK, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Serbia. Bar Flaubert has been adapted to a screenplay by the author and the director Vassilis Douvlis. Alexis Stamatis has also published six books of poetry. His second book, The Architecture of Interior Spaces, was awarded the Nikiforos Vrettakos Prize in 1994. Τwo collections of his poems have been translated in Great Britain. He has written the libretti for two musical pieces by the composer Theo Abazis, performed in Megaron Mousikis and the Chora theatre. In 2004, he participated at the world famous International Writing Program of the University of Iowa through a Greek Fulbright Artists & Art-Scholars Award.

His play The Last Martha was staged in 2004 for the Cultural Olympiad and then in 2008 at Theatre of Kefallinias Street, directed by Vicky Georgiadou and performed by Christos Stergioglou. His plays Dakrygona (Tear Gas) and Kill your Darlings were directed by Aris Troupakis in 2010 and 2012 and staged at Theatre of Kefallinias Street. In 2013, his play Midnight in a Perfect World was staged at the renown Athenian Theatre, Theatro Technis Karolos Koun (Athens Art Theatre). In 2013 his one- act play Innerview was staged at Southbank Centre (Purcell Room).

In 2007, the US publishing house Etruscan Press has won the 1st International Literary award by the US National Endowment for the Arts to publish his novel American Fugue.

On April 2013, he was one of the four speakers of the event “Four writers of the South comment on the crisis", which was held at the offices of the European Union in Brussels.
